Infectious Disease Research Center

Training

Pre-University Level

The Researcher for a Day ( Chercheur-e d’un Jour ) program offers groups of high school students (and their science teachers) the opportunity to spend a day at the Infectious Disease Research Center to demystify scientific careers, interact with active researchers and learn about cutting-edge technologies in a world-class laboratory. This very popular program welcomes over 200 people each year.

University Level

  • Undergraduate: Each year, the IDRC welcomes several undergraduate interns from Université Laval and other Quebec universities, either for the summer or for internships credited by their educational institution. The majority of students from Université Laval come from the Faculty of Medicine  and the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
  • Reception of externs and residents in medicine
  • Graduate students: Each year, more than 50 graduate students choose to pursue their graduate studies under the supervision of an IDRC researcher. These students are enrolled in the Cellular and Molecular Biology (Biologie cellulaire et moléculaire) or Microbiology-Immunology (Microbiologie-immunologie) programs of the Faculty of Medicine or in the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (M.Sc. with thesis and PhD).

Postdoctorate level

We always have more than 10 post-doctoral fellows who come to IDRC to complete their training. This training lasts a maximum of 5 years and must begin no more than 5 years after obtaining a doctoral degree in an appropriate field of expertise. More information about postdoctoral training at Université Laval can be found on the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website.
