Researchers Marianna Baz, Michel G. Bergeron, Guy Boivin, Jacques Corbeil, Jérôme Estaquier, Louis Flamand, Caroline Gilbert, Gary Kobinger, Denis Leclerc, Jean Longtin, Barbara Papadopoulou, Sylvie Trottier, Marie-Louise Vachon, and Gary Wong have been recipients or co-recipients of very important grants on COVID-19 regarding pathogenesis, vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and clinical studies. In 2020-21, direct grants, both collaborative and individual, represent well over $25M in funding. The expertise in virology and respiratory viruses of IDRC members, combined with access to a level 3 containment facility, has led to this remarkable success. The ongoing research and its impacts will be very important to overcome this pandemic and be better prepared for the next one.
We also wish to highlight the important role of IDRC researchers in steering and advisory committees regarding COVID-19.
