26 May 2022
On May 25, 2022, as part of the CRCHU’s Research Days activities, the very first “Prix Découverte” Awards gala was held – an event that recognizes the involvement, excellence and innovation demonstrated by researchers, employees, students and groups working at the CRCHU. Among the ten award categories, two were won by IDRC members for their outstanding work in 2021.
Star Mentor
IDRC Director Dr. Marc Ouellette was awarded the title of Star Mentor. His team nominated him for the award in recognition of his dedication to the many students and postdoctoral fellows who have transited through his laboratory over the course of his career and represent over 30 individuals. His remarkable experience allows him to support each student throughout their journey by adapting to the individuality of each of them, by including them in scientific discussions, by offering them the freedom to explore their ideas and by being available for them at all times.
Best Collaborative Group
The Best Collaborative Group Award was bestowed on the teams of Dr. Michel Bergeron, Dr. Sylvie Trottier and Dr. Marie-Louise Vachon for their collaborative clinical research initiative. Their joint project aims to facilitate triage in emergency rooms using new molecular tools for rapid pathogen detection. One of the tools, the RevogeneTM, was developed here at the IDRC and then tested in Phase I clinical trial as part of this project. The tests performed with the RevogeneTM instrument are used to enable rapid etiological diagnosis of infectious diseases in about an hour. This great success, born in the heart of our Research Center, is now having a worldwide commercial impact. We are very proud of this collaboration between the research team of Dr. Michel G. Bergeron and the clinical research teams of Dr. Sylvie Trottier and Dr. Marie-Louise Vachon to improve patient care. This collaboration will be extended to develop new clinical applications of this device and to evaluate new approaches to participatory diagnosis through a multi-center partnership with other hospitals in the province.
